Tar Heels Rally to Beat Virginia to win Series Game Two 8-5
The North Carolina Tar Heels scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally to beat Virginia 8-5. It means UNC wins the ACC's Coastal Division and will be the top seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament.
Virginia's Brandon Downes and Mike Papi each hit solo home runs in the loss. Derek Fisher went 4-for-4 at the plate. Virginia built a 5-2 lead before the Carolina rally. UVa relief pitcher, Kyle Crockett gave up six runs in the 8th inning, four of them earned. He took the loss.
Coach Brian O'Connor says, "Both us and North Carolina are a couple of the top teams in the country. Certainly, we showed that in the first game, and for about seven innings of this ballgame, and they showed what they're capable of doing."
UVa sophomore outfielder Derek Fisher says, "Coming and playing a team like this, you need to beat these teams to go to where everybody wants to go. Playing the best teams in the country, and seeing how you start up against the best teams in the country, it really what's going to show you what you got to do to win a national championship."
The 3-game series is tied at one game a piece. Game three is slated for Sunday at 2pm in Chapel Hill.
