Charlottesville Council Approves Higher Parking Fines, Lower Speed Limits

Posted: Updated:

Charlottesville City Council approved two ordinances Monday night that bring parking fines up and speed limits down.

You'll now be forking up more money if you get a parking ticket in Charlottesville. Council voted to bring overtime parking tickets from $15 to $20. While the overtime tickets aren't going up much, handicapped violations will rise from $100 to $180.

The increases are expected to rake in an additional $70,000 a year.

Council is also lowering the speed limit on Jefferson Park Avenue from 35 to 30 miles per hour from Cleveland Avenue to Fontaine Avenue. This comes after a speed study was conducted in the area.

Council will also look at lowering the speed limits in other areas in the near future.
