Charlottesville School Celebrates 50th Anniversary

Posted: Updated:

An elementary school in Charlottesville is celebrating a big milestone Friday night.

Greenbrier Elementary is marking its 50th anniversary.  Students, parents and alumni are gathering to honor the school's past.

Students at Greenbrier represent 30 countries and parents brought food from different origins. There are also pictures on display from different decades.

"We want to build on those who went before us so Greenbrier's had 50 years of educational excellence. We want to keep that going, it's always been a community school so we like to tie in the community," said Jim Kyner, Greenbrier's principal.

Students started the evening with a mile run.

Greenbrier Elementary was built and opened in 1962.
