Harrisonburg Police Department

On May 15, 2013 at approximately 9:30 PM officers from the Harrisonburg Police Department responded to the area of Purcell Park for a report of a robbery that had just occurred. On location the female victim stated that she had closed the concession stand inside the park when two males robbed her as she was walking toward her vehicle. She explained that the assailants approached her from behind and struck her with a hard object, knocking her to the ground. She stated that the offenders stole an envelope containing the cash proceeds from the concession stand and additional funds from a local fundraiser before fleeing the area.

The victim sustained minor injuries but did not require immediate medical treatment. Currently the HPD does not have a physical description of the offenders, and is requesting assistance from the community to further this investigation.

The Harrisonburg Police Department believes that the assailants likely expected the victim to be in possession of the proceeds from the concession stand and were possibly waiting for her when she exited the park.

HPD continues to investigate this incident and requests that anyone with information pertaining to the case contact the Criminal Investigations Division at (540) 437-2640.

Anyone with additional information, who wishes to remain anonymous, is asked to call Crime Solvers at 540-574-5050. Tipsters may also text "HPD" plus the tip to CRIMES 9274637). Residents can also access information about crimes in the area at www.crimereports.com.
