Faculty, Family Celebrate Ladd Weeks Before it Closes
People with connections to Ladd Elementary School gather to celebrate and say goodbye before it closes.
Once a school, forever a
family - that was the message Wednesday night as hundreds celebrated Ladd Elementary
The Augusta County school
located in Waynesboro is closing its doors in less than a month. Parents, teachers,
students and principals, both past and present, honored Ladd's legacy with
memories shared and patriotic songs.
Some are sad to see the
end of a nearly 50-year era.
"It upsets the kids
and everything as well as the parents. We know this school. We know the faculty.
And it's a great school. I hate to see it close," said parent Dana Cash.
Others are optimistic.
"It's sad, but I do
feel like they need a little bit of a change. A little bit of a newer
environment," said parent Amanda Becerra.
The celebration ended with
a song - "Let There Be Peace on Earth" - while everyone formed a
circle that extended from the school to the street.
