UVA facilities management preps the lawn for final exercises
Preparations are well underway for this weekend's commencement celebrations at the University of Virginia. UVA facilities management is spending the week getting the lawn prepared for thousands of guests.
The class of 2013 is the first class to graduate on the newly renovated lawn turf, and crews say they're working hard to make the setting just right.
"There's a lot that goes into setting up for graduation, from the ramps being put in, all the fencing and stakes being put in, so you have a pretty tight schedule to get the mowing done," said Chris Ward, UVA turf supervisor.
Set up will continue all week, as the university rolls out ramps and thousands of chairs for graduates and families.
Saturday's valedictory exercises feature keynote speaker Stephen Colbert, and former U.S. Senator Jim Webb will speak at Sunday's final exercises.
