Local High School Athletes Receive Awards, Scholarships

Posted: Updated:

Two area high school athletes are receiving top honors for their work on and off the field.

Sarah Cameron of East Rockingham High School and Daniel Kuzjak from Western Albemarle High School were two of 10 students across the state to receive a college scholarship from the Allstate Foundation and the Virginia High School League.

They were honored as male and female athletes of the year for their respective divisions during a luncheon Monday at the Omni Hotel in Charlottesville.

"It feels great. I'm really honored. I'm sure everybody who applied for this was just as deserving. It's great to get this award with my family, friends, and coaches, everybody who has helped me get here," said Cameron.

"I've worked hard in both my athletics and off the field in everything I do - community service, in the classroom. I've always worked hard and made sure to find a balance with all those things. It gets tough sometimes and sometimes you have to give up some sleep, but in the end it's all worth it," said Kuzjak.

All 10 students received a $1,500 scholarship.
