Cville & Albemarle Cyclists Kick Off 2013 Bike Week
Bicyclists are hitting the pavement as Charlottesville and Albemarle County kick off Bike Week 2013. Monday marks the start of 2013 Bike Week - which coincides with National Bike Month.
On Monday, a group of more than a dozen bikers traveled across the city - from the University of Virginia to the downtown mall. Once they arrived at the downtown mall, state Senator Creigh Deeds and City Councilor Kathy Galvin spoke about the importance of bike accessibility.
"Biking is an easy way of getting around and it's a very healthy way. Every time I ride my bike I leave a parking space for someone else to use," said Mac Lafferty, Bike Week organizer. "We ought to cooperate together- it's for all of our good."
Bike Charlottesville 2013 Community Partner Award winner Heather Higgins says connecting Charlottesville and Albemarle County is the next big priority.
"That's the next really big hurdle to improve accessibility of biking to people is to improve those corridors. So we're really hoping that the county is willing to work with us on that," said Higgins.
