#7 UVa Baseball Scores 3 Runs in the Bottom of 9th to Beat Duke 6-5

Posted: Updated:

The #7 Virginia Baseball Team scored three times in the bottom of the ninth to take out Duke in game one of their three game series following a brief rain delay Friday night at Davenport field.

The Cavaliers improve to 40-8 overall and 18-7 in the ACC.

UVA's Brandon Downes started the hitting spree with a triple. Downes later stole home plate to cut the deficit to 5-4.

A thunderstorm put the game on hold for 56 minutes but the Cavaliers came out of the rain delay fired up.

Reed Gragnani hit an RBI single to tie it at 5-5.

UVA's Kenny Towns was intentionally walked and the bases were loaded for Nate Irving.

Irving hit a walk off single to plate Nick Howard and seal the Cavaliers 6-5 victory.

Virginia will be back in action against Duke tomorrow at Davenport field.
