UVA Health System Honors Nurses at Awards Ceremony
The 13th Annual Nursing Excellence Awards Ceremony
Friday, the University of Virginia Health System honored the work of nurses who have gone above and beyond.
It was a full house at the 13th Annual Nursing Excellence Awards Ceremony. The awards reception marked the grand finale of National Nurses Week.
More than 70 nurses were nominated by their peers for the eight top honors. The eight nursing excellence awards include beginning practitioner of the year, nurse of distinction, and transformational leader.
Professional Nursing Staff Organization President Tina Knicely says there's no greater honor than to be acknowledged by your peers.
"I think it's the best part of the whole week. We have a lot of great things in store - we also acknowledge people who have gone on in their education, advanced on the career ladder, who've become certified in their specialty, and also there are some awards that patients can nominate for nurses that they felt touched their lives and made a difference," said Knicely.
This is the first year the organization has done one big ceremony. There have been separate fall and spring events in the past.
Honors were also given out in other categories, such as pediatric nursing education.
