Staunton Man Arrested after Fleeing Traffic Stop

A Staunton man is in custody after leading police on a chase in Augusta County.

Charles Brown, 36, fled from a traffic stop on Route 262 in Augusta County around 11 a.m. Thursday.

Brown was wanted as part of a narcotics investigation. Several agencies gave chase.

Police say he threw a loaded pistol and a backpack filled with evidence out the window during the chase. Both were found. The chase ended after Brown crashed into a Waynesboro police cruiser.

He is charged with felony eluding, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

Brown is being held without bond.
