Waynesboro Jury Rules Councilman's Dog Dangerous

Posted: Updated: May 9, 2013 09:25 PM
WAYNESBORO, Va (WVIR) -

A Waynesboro jury decided Thursday night that a Waynesboro councilman's dog is dangerous.

Last May, a golden retriever named Luke bit a man while he was out walking his dog. Luke is the dog of former Waynesboro Mayor Frank Lucente.

Thursday, the jury heard from 17 witnesses, some saying Luke was playful. Others said he was aggressive.

After an hour of deliberating, jurors agreed that Luke was in fact dangerous.

"What I believe at this point really it's not important.  It's what the law says I have to do and that's what I'll do," Lucente said.

The list of requirements includes having a $100,000 insurance policy on Luke, walking him muzzled on a leash and obtaining a dangerous dog permit.
