Council Approves Funding Plan for Hillsdale Drive Upgrades
Hillsdale Drive could soon
see some major improvements. Monday night, Charlottesville City Council
approved the funds for proposed upgrades.
The Shops at Stonefield
developers are giving the city $800,000 to help improve traffic conditions on Hillsdale
The Hillsdale Drive Extension
is a planned road that is expected to relieve congestion on Route 29 and the Hydraulic
Road intersection. It is a state-funded project but the money isn't expected to
come for another couple of years.
Now Stonefield developers
are giving the city money to start the project that would connect the road from
the dead end at Whole Foods to India Road. Planners say it is an important step
in this project.
"This is the number
one road priority for the city of Charlottesville so this is a way to realize a
portion of it," said Jim Tolbert, the city's director of neighborhood
The planned improvements
for Hillsdale Drive include bike lanes and sidewalks.
