RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - With the arrival of May, farm markets are opening for business across Virginia.
The state has more than 220 farmers markets. That ranks that state ninth in the nation. While some operate year-round, most markets offering locally grown produce are open from early may through late fall.
Chris Hatch is a Loudoun County farmer who sells grass-fed beef, honey and lamb at the Leesburg Farmers Market on Saturdays year-round. Bill and India Cox grow specialty produce in Powhatan County. They sell at the local market on Thursdays and at the South of the James Market in Richmond's Forest Hill Park each Saturday.
