Big screens and mint juleps helped set the scene at the Paramount Theater.
People in Charlottesville put on their best seersucker suits and fancy hats Saturday for a Kentucky Derby bash.
The Paramount Theater hosted the party with derby-themed hor d'oeuvres and mint juleps. Guests came out for the VIP party before watching the race on the big screen to make them feel like they had a front row seat to the derby.
"It's just really a party, I mean people are coming we have mint juleps we have wine we have food, just you know festive atmosphere and then people can go in to the auditorium and then a more relaxed environment just go sit wherever they like and watch it," said Katherine Davis of the Paramount Theater.
Things got competitive on the fashion front - there was a contest for best hat.
On the track - five to one favorite "Orb" - splashed through the slop to win the title.
