Charlottesville Boys and Girls Club Hosts "Cops 4 Kids Day"

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of kids spent the afternoon at the Boys and Girls Club with some of Charlottesville's police officers.

Cops 4 Kids Day gives kids a chance to interact and get comfortable with police officers.  The department showed off its K-9 motorcycle and SWAT teams. Kids also learned from the forensics unit how to look for clues.

"We're learning about cops and what they do to protect us and why it's so important that we're safe," said Alloire Thomas.

The goal of the event was to connect kids with cops in a positive way. Organizers say it is important they see police officers as leaders in the community that can be trusted.
