James River Runners to Hold 32nd Chili Cook-Off

Posted: Updated:

A Scottsville group is preparing for a day full of hearty, homemade chili.

James River Runners is holding its 32nd Annual Chili Cook-off Saturday. They have some new activities this year, including a brewer's challenge, carnival games and a moon bounce.

Fifteen teams will be cooking chili. That number has grown over the years.

"I think they started with two or three cooking teams and it just grew from there.  And they were always supporting their local rescue squad and volunteers and, so it's just grown. Thirty-two years of supporting our community and that's what it's all about," said Paige Wilkes, owner of James River Runners.

Organizers are anticipating a crowd of 2,500 people. They encourage visitors to carpool if they can.
