Sen. Kaine Attends Charlottesville Talk on Bioscience Economics
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
Virginia's newest senator stopped in the Charlottesville area Thursday.
Senator Tim Kaine and Congressman Robert Hurt attended an economic development round table with researchers and leaders in Virginia bioscience at the Boar's Head Inn on Thursday. Robert Hurt, a representative for Virginia's 5th District, was on the discussion panel.
Kaine says bioscience is growing quickly in Virginia, and wants to hear directly from industry leaders about how he can help in Washington.
"The kinds of things you work with on the state level are a little bit different than federal issues, and I want to make sure I hear what people have to say about research funding, or intellectual property, or other issues that matter to this industry," Kaine said.
Kaine's visit was part of a larger weeklong economic development tour, making stops around central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley.
