Central Virginia Celebrates Clean Commute Day

On Friday you can take public transit for free -  It's Clean Commute Day. Charlottesville RideShare is asking you to walk, bike, carpool or take public transit for your morning and evening commute.

The goal is to make people aware of the transportation options, and encourage people to try a new way of commuting.

Charlottesville Area Transit is also giving free rides on all bus routes Friday.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – April 17, 2013) The Commuter Information Team is proud to host the 23rd annual Clean Commute Day in the Central Virginia region, Friday, May 3rd, 2013.

Area commuters are encouraged to take the "Clean Commute Pledge," promising to use a commute option other than driving alone for at least one day. Participants who make the pledge are eligible to win valuable prizes from sponsors. The Grand Prize Winner will receive two tickets on Amtrak's Northeast Regional Service good for travel to any location along the route from Charlottesville to Boston.

To encourage participation, area transit services are helping the community "clean commute" for free. CAT is offering free bus rides all day on Friday, May 3rd.

Join the celebration on Friday, May 3rd at the Community Chalkboard on the Charlottesville Downtown Mall from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Representatives from RideShare, JAUNT, UTS and CAT will be there providing information and giveaways.

Take the "Clean Commute Pledge" at CommuterInformation.com. Pledge cards will also be available at the Clean Commute Day Celebration on Friday, May 3rd. Clean Commute Day is sponsored by Amtrak Virginia.
