Harrisonburg to Begin Sewer Line Replacement Project

City of Harrisonburg
Press Release

Harrisonburg, VA – The Public Utilities Department will soon begin a project to replace a sewer line. Starting Monday, May 6, City personnel and A.J. Connor Construction, Inc. will begin work along Collicello Street. The 400, 500, and 600 blocks of Collicello Street will be impacted throughout the construction.

Approximately 1,000 feet of the existing clay sewer line will be removed and new pipes, made from PVC material, will be put in its place. There are portions of this existing pipe that were installed as far back as 1906.

The repairs will be made in sections and only a portion of Collicello Street will be closed in the immediate area of the construction. Some parking on Collicello Street will be limited during the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and there will be some interruptions in service; however, all residents will be notified when this will occur. An alley, which is located south of First Street and runs from Collicello to North Liberty streets, will be closed to traffic at the beginning of this project and will later reopen.

Those property owners, who will be impacted, have already been notified of the upcoming project and will continue to receive informational updates as the project progresses

It is anticipated that this replacement project will be complete by August 2013 and will cost approximately $150,000.

The City of Harrisonburg appreciates cooperation from the community while these upgrades are made to the sewer system.

All questions can be directed to the Public Utilities Department at 540-434-9959.
