UVA To Host Men's and Women's Tennis Regionals

Posted: Updated:

2013 marks the fourth consecutive year the Cavalier men's and women's tennis teams will host the first and second round of NCAA tournament play at the Snyder Tennis Center. The men's regional is slated for May 10-11 while the women's regional is set for May 11-12.

Both the men will take on Fairliegh Dickinson in the first round for the second consecutive year.

The first round winners play the following day for a trip to the NCAA Round of 16, hosted this year by Illinois.

The Cavalier men (24-0) are the tournament's No. 2 overall seed, marking the seventh consecutive year they have been a top-four national seed.

"It's something we don't control. I believe we've done a great job of controlling the things we can like going undefeated in the regular season and winning the conference championship. We put ourselves in the best possible position that we could and we're looking forward to playing in the tournament," said head coach Brian Boland.

The Cavalier women (17-9) are the No. 14 overall seed in the tournament, marking the third consecutive year they have been nationally seeded.

Head Coach, Mark Gilbeau said, "Just really grateful to be able to host. This year it certainly came from a lot of hard work from the team. It's a team that's battled through some adversity. We lost some of our best players to an injury and you've gotta handle that the right way. The team certainly did that so to be rewarded and to earn the hosting is certainly a great step."
