9 Western Albemarle HS Student-Athletes Sign Letters Of Intent
Western Albemarle High School made April 30th, 2013 has its own personal national signing day.
The Warriors had nine student athletes in six different sports sign national letters of intent to play in college.
The Warriors all-state striker, Marina Clark, will be heading to Lynchburg College and her all-district, second team all-region teammate, Christine Domecq, will also be a Fighting Hornet.
Clark said, "We're captains together and we've played together since we were like 14 so I think it will carry on into Lynchburg."
"I verbally committed over the summer and its nice to be like I'm officially going there. I think its awesome because she's always the person that's pushed me in practice so its good to still have that in college," said Domecq.
Their goalie, Josie Rappold will play for Emory and Henry and she's ready for the rivalry.
"They're my competition now," said Rappold.
Western Lacrosse player Emily Wood led her team to a regional championship and now she has picked Mary Washington. Her roommate at school will be three time state champion swimmer, Anna Corley.
"Its definitely a soothing feeling knowing I'll have someone that I'm close with and someone I can talk to even if they are on a different team," said Wood.
Caroline Deale has been second team all-state in field hockey the past two years and she will also be a Mary Washington Eagle.
Deale said, "Its been my dream to play in college. College is fun but just to have that family and that competitiveness there - I'm just ready for it."
Track captain and three-time state qualifier Kelsey Pitman will represent the Warriors at West Point.
"Its a chance for me to be a part of something bigger than myself and serve the country," said Pitman.
Boys lacrosse captain Drew Abernathy will play for Christopher Newport.
Abernathy said, "They're really on the rise in the lacrosse scene and its a really exciting time down there."
Volleyball captain, Laura Bergin, is stoked to hit the court for Gettysburg College.
"I love the sport. This is my seventh year of playing. Its what I do. Its a part of me now so just to keep going will be great."
