Posted: Updated:

SOUTH HILL, Va. (AP) - Two men face charges of transporting moonshine following an investigation by state and local authorities.

Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control agents arrested 76-year-old Vernon Thomas of Chesterfield and 64-year-old Bernard Davis of Chase City earlier this month. Thomas was arrested on Interstate 85 at the intersection with state Route 58 in South Hill. Davis was arrested on Route 58 in Boydton.

A truck, a cargo van and 150 gallons of moonshine were seized.

Carol B. Bawyer with the ABC tells The Progress-Index that the men are accused of transporting the moonshine from North Carolina to Virginia.

Davis and Thomas each are charged with illegally transporting alcoholic beverages in excess of 1 gallon and possession of untaxed distilled spirits.
