FBI Investigates McDonnell after Star Scientific Foots Big Bill

Posted: Updated:

The FBI is looking into allegations of alleged wrongdoing by Governor Bob McDonnell and his family.

The Washington Post reported Monday night that the bureau is looking at a $15,000 catering bill paid for by the top executive of troubled nutritional supplement maker Star Scientific. It's also investigating whether other gifts were provided to McDonnell's wife and family members.

This comes on the day the former chef in the Virginia executive mansion says in court papers that he told authorities more than a year ago about the lavish gifts.

McDonnell said during a radio interview Tuesday morning that although the head of Star Scientific, Jonnie Williams, is a personal friend, the administration has given no special treatment to the company.

A motion filed Monday to dismiss four felony embezzlement counts against Chef Todd Schneider also accuses Republican Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli of prosecuting Schneider in an attempt to protect his political interests as he runs for governor.
