“Cavaliers Against Cancer” to Host Charity Poker Tournament
One group fighting cancer raised almost $13,000 last year and hopes to beat that this year.
Cavaliers Against Cancer will hold its third annual charity Texas Hold'em tournament on Saturday. The event offers three types of tournaments from beginners to high-stakes.
The fellowship specializes in immunology, which organizers say is the next generation of how to defeat cancer.
"They're trying to find ways to use the body's own immunology on a cellular level to fight the cancer from within, in a way that doesn't harm the body as much," said Shawn Brydge, tournament coordinator.
The event is May 4 at the John Paul Jones Arena, beginning at noon.
