A Rockingham County woman was killed in a head-on crash Monday morning in Greene County. It happened around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Route 33 and Bull Yearling Road.
Troopers say Shirley Manthorne, 29, was behind the wheel of a Honda Civic that crossed the center line of Route 33 and hit a tractor-trailer head-on.
Manthorne died at the scene. The truck driver was not seriously hurt.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

On Monday, April 29, 2013, Virginia State Police Trooper D.C. Palmer was called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer and a vehicle at the intersection of Spotswood Trial (Route 33) and Bull Yearling Road (Route 634) in Greene County. Virginia State Police were notified of the crash at 8:37 a.m.
A Honda Civic traveling west on Route 33 crossed the center line and struck a tractor-trailer head-on in the eastbound lane of Route 33. The driver of the Honda Civic, Shirley N. Manthorne, 29, of Rockingham County, died at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, was not injured, but was later taken to the hospital by private vehicle.
Speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash. No charges are expected to be filed.
The Virginia State Police Motor Carrier Team and Accident Reconstruction Team assisted Trooper Palmer with the crash investigation.
Both lanes of Route 33 were shut down and re-opened by 1:45 p.m.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
