Forty-seven young women from central Virginia parted ways with their long hair Sunday to help people going through cancer treatments.

The students from Saint Anne's-Belfield School got their long locks chopped off to be donated to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program.

The partnership with the American Cancer Society distributes free wigs to people undergoing cancer treatment.

"With more fundraisers people are doing they're raising money, or their giving their time to someone, but when you donate your hair, you're actually giving a piece of yourself to someone else," said Alexa Ignaczak, creator of the event.
