Hundreds of kids were out by the water Saturday in Albemarle County hoping to catch some fish.

The ninth annual Kid's Fishing Day was held at Mint Springs Park in Crozet. All kids ages 12 and under were invited to fish for free.

Volunteers were on hand to help the youngsters. Some of them shared strategies they used to catch trout.

"I know the big thing about it is patience and what I really like about fishing is throwing the line out and reeling in the fish because it just gets my adrenaline pumping," fisher Nathan McQuinns said.

"I like fishing for trout with a spoon because it ends up catching more fish than bait would and so when it's reeling in, usually they grab it close to shore," fisher Stephane Karp said.

Volunteers also set up a concession stand to sell bait and tackle.
