A group of congregations is set to host a fundraising festival where several choirs will come together for a good cause.

People and Congregations Engaged in Ministry, or PACEM, coordinates shelter for the homeless in the community. Now, several churches are coming together to support their work.

Choirs from seven different congregations throughout the area will play a handbell concert Saturday. It will consist of a group of about 70 people who have never played together, with one director getting them all in harmony.

During the intermission, the public will get a chance to learn how to ring the handbells.

"Well, it's really beautiful music and handbell music is sort of getting to be a lost art so it's very relaxing if you have a stressful week. It's something to listen to and relax," said event organizer Carrie Lee Pledger.

The handbell festival is Saturday at 7 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church on East Rio Road. The event is free and open to the public and all donations will benefit PACEM.
