Waynesboro Public Schools have a new superintendent.
This past January, Superintendent Robin Crowder announced that he is stepping down after 23 years with Waynesboro schools. Thursday night the school board named his replacement, Dr. Jeffrey Cassell.
Cassell has served Smyth County Public Schools in Virginia for nearly three decades. Waynesboro School Board Chair Jeremy Taylor says Cassell is exactly what they were looking for.
"He has taught for a number of years. He has been an in-school administrator. He has been a central office administrator. He has particular strengths in budget and finance and curriculum and instruction, which is exactly what we had been emphasizing in this division for years," Taylor said.
The appointment will be official after a vote at the May 14 school board meeting. Cassell will begin July 1.
