Former Saint Anne's-Belfield football star Kyle Long was selected by the Chicago Bears with the 20th selection in the first round of the NFL Draft Thursday night.

Long took a winding and unconventional path through his collegiate career, but he's made himself into a top NFL prospect.

Kyle Long spent last season playing for the University of Oregon.  The 6-foot-6, 313 pound offensive lineman only started five games in his only season for the Ducks, but NFL scouting experts say Long has a rare combination of size and athleticism.

At Saint Anne's-Belfield, Long was a two-sport star.  He chose baseball over football signing with Florida State.   Long only spent one semester in Tallahassee, and never played for the baseball team.

Kyle, the brother of Rams lineman, Chris Long, and son of NFL Hall-of-Famer, Howie Long, then returned to football.  He enrolled at Saddleback Community College in California and switched to offensive tackle, a position at which his father felt Kyle could excel.

Long has only one year of playing big-time college football.  Scouts says he has world class athleticism for his size, but is still a work in progress because of his inexperience.
