The UVa baseball team won its sixth straight game Wednesday night beating JMU 16-8 to cap off a perfect 6-game homestand.

The 16 runs are a season high.

The 'Hoos scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead, but JMU rallied to score six runs in the second and third innings to take a 6-5 lead.

Virginia scored 11 of the game's final 13 runs.

Brandon Downes went 3-4 with three RBI including a solo home run.

Reed Gragnani had two hits and four RBI.

Every Virginia starter had at least one hit.

Downes says, "Once one guy starts going, and you get a big hit, I feel like you get energized, and everybody gets into it. It's just hot after hit after hit. I love it when that happens."

Head coach Brian O'Connor adds,  "It took a great effort from our offense, and capitalized on a lot of opportunities. We had a number of big innings, three really big innings in that ballgame, and we needed it."

The Cavaliers begin a three-game series at Virginia Tech on Friday.
