Roadside Memorial for Slain Trooper Relocated

DINWIIDDIE, Va. (AP) - A roadside memorial for a slain Virginia State Police trooper has been moved to his family's home.

State police said Wednesday that concerns for the safety of passing motorists and people stopping at the memorial prompted the relocation of the memorial for Master Trooper Junius A. Walker.

Walker was fatally shot on March 7 during a traffic stop on Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County.

Since then, state police say the memorial along the interstate grew to include a flagpole, numerous crosses, flowers and stuffed animals.

Anyone wishing to pay their respects is asked to come to the state police's Area 7 Office on Simpson Road in Petersburg.
