An Albemarle County man will spend seven years behind bars on malicious wounding, abduction and probation violation charges. Dillon Lee Shifflett, a registered sex offender in Virginia, was sentenced Tuesday in Albemarle County Circuit Court.
On February 6, 2012 the Albemarle County Police responded to the 1900 block of Craigs Store Road for a reported assault. Officers met with the reporting party, who stated that she had been a victim of non-consensual sexual act. After investigation, Shifflett was charged with two counts of abduction, two counts of rape and one count of sodomy. The rape and sodomy charges were later dropped.
In May of 2012, a judge certified abduction and malicious wounding charges to the grand jury against Shifflett. The grand jury then indicted him on those charges.
In August, Shifflett entered an Alford plea on charges of malicious wounding, abduction and probation violation. An Alford plea means he did not admit to the crimes, but agreed there was enough evidence to convict him.
Prosecutors say Shifflett partially ripped off his wife's ear during the February 2012 incident.
