Scottsville Woman Charged with Stealing UVA Ambulance

A 45-year-old Scottsville woman is in trouble with the law after police say she stole an ambulance from the emergency room at University of Virginia Medical Center.

Police say Laura Aven hopped behind the wheel and took it for a ride for a couple of blocks last Wednesday shortly before 4 a.m.

Aven is charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

On April 17, 2013, shortly before 4:00 a.m. a Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad (CARS) unit was taken from the University of Virginia Emergency Department ambulance bay. It was discovered a short time later at the intersection of Lee Street and Roosevelt Brown, unattended and the engine running.

On April 24, 2013, University of Virginia Police charged Laura Jean Aven, 45 of Scottsville, with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. She is currently being held without bond at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail and is scheduled to appear in Charlottesville General District Court today at 10:00 a.m.
