Tours Offered During VA Cave Week

Posted: Updated:

CEDAR CREEK, Va. (AP) - There's still time to get a free walking tour of Ogdens Cave Natural Area Preserve in Virginia's Frederick County.

The tours are being offered through Wednesday as part of Virginia Cave Week. There's much to explore elsewhere, too.

Three more than 4,000 known caves in Virginia, primarily in the Shenandoah Valley and the southwest region of the state.

The 131-acre Ogdens Cave Natural Area Preserve is just north of Cedar Creek. It has nearly one mile of mapped passages. It also has pools and is home to the endangered Appalachian spring snail, a thin-necked beetle and several species of crustaceans.

The natural area is owned by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.
