Tandem Friends School in Albemarle County is reflecting on its past and looking forward to the future.

The school held a Founder's Day celebration Friday afternoon, welcoming families and school leaders back to campus to reflect on the school's 43-year history.

As Tandem Friends celebrates its 40th graduating class, cofounder John Howard says its core values centered around a close student-teacher relationship remain the same.

"Things really have not changed that much. I mean Tandem is really what it started out to be - it's just bigger and better, which makes me very happy," Howard said.

Tandem Friends School was founded in 1970, and serves more than 200 students from Charlottesville and seven surrounding counties.
