The #16 UVa women's lacrosse team beat rival Virginia Tech 10-5 in the regular season finale Wednesday night.

The 'Hoos had 10 different goal scorers.

Virginia built a 6-1 halftime lead.

The Hokies cut the deficit to three before Virginia finished the game scoring three of the last four goals.

The Cavalier get their first ACC win (1-4) and improve to 8-8 overall.

"I would say that we were pretty desperate for a win," said head coach Julie Myers. "The players have done a nice job of working really hard and staying focused. As hard as it has been to lose games, they have really stayed positive and stayed together. It was nice to see that we were able to contribute together and have so many different people scoring goals. Our defense did a nice job of making some big stops as well."

Senior Caroline McTiernan says, "We definitely hit out shots at the right time. Our shots in the last game were a little off. We really worked on shooting this week, and the defense worked on their sets. We knew we had to pick our confidence up. We knew we had to work hard, and be determined for a win."

Kim Kolarik returned to the starting lineup, playing in goal after missing the last seven games.

She made five saves, four of those coming in the first half.

Kolarik says, "We've had a little bit of a bumpy season, but we've also had a lot of games where we've only lost by one, so we're right up there. We just got over the hump today, and now it's off to ACC's, NCAA's, and a winning streak from here on out."

With the victory, Virginia will earn the No. 5 seed in next week's ACC Tournament and face the No. 4 seed, Duke, in the first round game.

The ACC Tournament will be held April 25-28 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
