Among hundreds of runners taking on the 13-mile road course from Waynesboro to Stuarts Draft in the Park to Park Half Marathon will be Dustin Thurston – a Defiance High School student living with cerebral palsy.

"You can look at him and just see the sense of belonging. That feeling of, 'I am doing this,'" said Stephanie Thurston, Dustin's Mom.

Dustin can participate in the marathon in a racing wheelchair tracked down by volunteers from Therapeutic Adventures. Therapeutic Adventures helps people with physical challenges enjoy the outdoors - whether it's skiing, fishing, canoeing or running a half-marathon.

"Individuals with special needs are getting out there and competing on the same level, or participating on the same level. They just require some adaptation so they can do it," said Mark Andrews with Therapeutic Adventures.

The wheelchair has a mounted "Dustin-Cam" and will be powered by supporters known as 'Team Dustin' - all decked out in matching T-shirts.

"It's going to be blue this year so hopefully there'll be a nice ocean when we come to the finish line. It's just great to see family support, community support. This year especially we've had a lot of student support," said Lauren Heberling, Team Dustin member.

Team Dustin has also given back to Therapeutic Adventures by splitting the proceeds from shirt sales. They'll be back for their third running of the Park to Park Half Marathon on April 27.
