Boston Marathon runners from central Virginia are returning home Tuesday.

Realtor Mike Gaffney crossed the finish line and was back in his hotel when the bombs exploded. He says a group of about 20 Charlottesville-area runners were on lockdown in that hotel following the attacks.

Gaffney says race debris still littered the streets Tuesday morning.

"Driving into the city, it just seemed like another world from where we were just four or five hours ago. Even when we left, it was still tight security around the area," said Gaffney.

Gaffney and his fellow Charlottesville runners plan to get together for a post-marathon closure dinner when everyone gets home. It was supposed to be a celebratory dinner in Boston Monday night.
