UVA Administrators Drop Proposed Upperclassmen Fee

Posted: Updated:

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - A proposed fee for most upperclassmen at the University of Virginia has been dropped. But administrators still plan tuition increases.

Some members of the university's Board of Visitors had criticized the proposed fee. The fee would have started at $500 and then increased by $500 each year until it reached $2,000.

The Daily Progress reports that UVA administrators announced the revised plan Monday. It calls for a 2.9% increase in in-state tuition and a 3.9% hike in out-of-state tuition.

The board will consider the proposed increases later this week.

If approved, in-state students would pay $12,458 and out-of-state students would pay $39,844.
