'Hoos Heal 5K Benefits Children with Cancer

Posted: Updated:

More than 150 particpants of all ages went for a run at the University of Virginia Saturday morning to help children with cancer.

Notus Sports - a Charlottesville sports and event management company - organized the first ‘Hoos Heal 5K and Kids Race at UVA's Nameless Field.

Funds from the race will benefit the Department of Pediatric Oncology at the UVA Medical Center.

"It's really good to start health living from an early age and also just helping give back to the kids at the hospital. They're so close to us and fighting cancer and showing our appreciation for them and support for them," said Heidi Schubel of Notus Sports.

Notus Sports was founded on the concept of community involvement, charitable giving, and healthy living.

Saturday's race raised about $2,500. Organizers hope to make this an annual event.
