Valley High School Students to Host Bone Marrow Drive
For a pair of valley high school students, a required class project has become a mission.
Lucy Gordon and Christyn Garber are students at the Shenandoah Valley Governor's School who made a unique choice for their senior service project. They organized a bone marrow donor drive, which takes place on Saturday.
Gordon's 15-year-old brother, Jack, was diagnosed with leukemia as a child - but it's been in remission for the past five years.
"People that we met through the experience were affected by bone marrow transplants and were either saved by them, or they assisted in their treatment. There's so many blood drives but you never hear of bone marrow drives, and it's very very important," said Lucy.
The donor drive takes place Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Augusta County Library in Fishersville.
