Monticello Football Introduces Jeff Woody As Head Coach

Posted: Updated:

Monticello football players and parents looked on as Jeff Woody spoke in front of his new team for the first time Friday afternoon.

Woody said, "its an honor to meet you and I'd like to as soon as possible get in there and rub shoulders with you and have you figure out who I am."

The light-hearted family man is a Lynchburg native who spent 8-years building a football powerhouse at Brookville. Now he's taking his expertise to the sideline at Monticello.

"We're gonna move forward and analyze personnel and figure out what's the best for us to put points on the board," said Woody.

In his early days at Brookville, Woody had a ground-and-pound offense. Later, he moved to a no huddle, more spread out attack that at one point was highlighted by Logan Thomas who is now Virginia Tech's Quarterback.

Woody gave the Mustangs a glimpse of what he hopes their offense looks like.

"Lets go ahead and hand the ball off 75%-80% of the time. I've combined that style with this fast paced, no huddle. And I say fast paced lightly - we're going to control the tempo," said Woody.

At Brookville, he earned two state championships and leaves the program on a 28-game winning streak, but now he's not at the top.

"Monticello has all the ingredients to keep that streak alive," said Woody.

Woody attributes his coaching success story at Brookville to team chemistry. He's eager to take to the practice field, meet the guys, and hit the ground running.

Woody exclaimed, "I can't wait. I want to jump off the stage now and get in there and shake hands."

And he already has big plans the Mustangs.

"Our goal at the very beginning of the season is we want to be the best team in the state of Virginia," said Woody.
