Construction Continues at Rt 250 and McIntire Road

Posted: Updated:

Expect another round of police officers at the intersection of Route 250 and McIntire Road Friday.  Crews are working on the heavily traveled thoroughfare and it's bringing traffic to a grinding halt.

The lights are not out at Charlottesville's busiest intersection, but police officers are directing traffic to help utility crews working to move traffic signal poles on the Route 250 interchange.

"We don't want any of them to be hurt. You certainly don't want to hit any of my officers," said Lt. Ronnie Roberts of the Charlottesville Police Department.

Utility crews are running new cables at the intersection of the Route 250 Bypass and McIntire Road. Police officers are directing traffic as needed when crews run the lines across the lanes.

With the volume of traffic that flows through every day, drivers need to be alert as construction continues.

"We have drivers that are not paying attention to what's going on and being attentive to what's happening around them," said Roberts.

The $20.1 million project will put a diamond-style interchange at the intersection. It's the third and final part of the Meadow Creek Parkway Project.

Both utility crews and police will be out Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Charlottesville.

The work zone area has a posted speed of 25 miles per hour. Work should be done by the summer of 2015.
