S.Y. Scholars Program Holding Education Summit at UVA
Well-known educators from all around the region are coming to the University of Virginia for a student-run summit.
The S.Y. Scholars Program is a mentorship, scholarship and college prep organization for high school students. It started in Lynchburg, Virginia, but is now bringing its services to Charlottesville.
At the summit on Saturday, several teachers, principals, education leaders, and even UVA President Teresa Sullivan, will take part in a panel discussion on the state of education in America.
"Well I hope people are rejuvenated just about the idea of education," said Kelly-Ann Williams, event host and UVA fifth year. "I know there's a lot of apathy in education and kind of dissatisfaction and so we just want to have this conversation to get people passionate again and to affect change in the local community."
Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for non-students. All proceeds will go to the S.Y. Scholars Program.
