Gearhart’s Raises Money for ‘Companions for Heroes’

Posted: Updated:

A Charlottesville chocolatier is partnering with a national nonprofit on its latest tasty treat.

Gearhart's Fine Chocolates is giving back with a product that barks. Handmade peanut butter pups feature Virginia-made peanut butter covered in milk chocolate with almonds for ears.

Five percent of pup sales will go to Companions for Heroes, a nonprofit that provides rescue pets to wounded veterans.

"We couldn't be happier with this particular charity, and they were just absolutely over the moon about the project. It was unique to them, and I think it's going to be a really great mutual relationship," said owner Tim Gearhart.

A box of nine pups costs $18. They're available at stores in Charlottesville and Richmond or online.

Gearhart's hopes to make the pups a regular part of the company's product line.
