Terry McAuliffe Speaks to UVA Political Science Class

Posted: Updated:

Democratic gubernatorial nominee Terry McAuliffe made his latest stop in Charlottesville Wednesday - this time for a class with political expert Larry Sabato at the University of Virginia.

He wasn't there to learn - but rather to speak in front of a group of political science students. They have learned from a number of public figures in state and national politics this year, and now they have come face to face with every contender for Virginia governor.

Republican candidate Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli spoke to the same group in early February. He was followed shortly thereafter by Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling who, at that point, was still mulling over an independent run for the state's top job.

McAuliffe completed the puzzle Wednesday, speaking before a group of very inquisitive undergraduates at UVA and sharing his campaign message of economic development and job creation.

"When I asked the students how many were graduating and how many had jobs, one hand went up," McAuliffe said. "So they know the challenges we're facing. Who's going to focus on bringing mainstream pro-business ideas, working both sides of the aisle to get things done? They need a job."

Last week, the Democratic Party of Virginia officially certified McAuliffe as its nominee for governor. He and presumed GOP nominee Ken Cuccinelli will square off at the polls in November.
