Charlottesville Named Top Retirement Destination

City of Charlottesville
Press Release

Charlottesville, April 10, 2013 – Charlottesville has been selected by Where to Retire, the only magazine in America geared toward helping people with retirement relocation decisions, as a top retirement destination. Our area is profiled as one of eight "Dynamic Locales For Walkable Living" in the May/June issue, available nationwide on April 16, 2013.

Where to Retire Editor Mary Lu Abbott said Charlottesville possesses qualities important to today's retirees. "More people than ever are making retirement relocation decisions based on how often they can ditch the car and go places by foot. Many towns, including Charlottesville, have neighborhoods where walking is not only a health benefit, but a way to connect with neighbors and nature and lessen the strain on your wallet and the environment," Abbott said.

In the past few years, the Charlottesville area has received many awards and distinctions such as "Locavore Capital of the World," "#1 Agri-Tourism Destination," "#4 Most Romantic City in America," and "Top 10 metro areas where people indicate they have the best overall sense of well-being," to only name a few. There is no question that our region is recognized by many to be a very special place; anyone looking for that special place to retire should come and visit and see for themselves what the fuss is all about.

"Charlottesville and Albemarle County have so much to offer," says Kurt Burkhart, Executive Director for the Charlottesville Albemarle Convention & Visitors Bureau. "This is a wonderful place to live and to visit; whether you come in July or January, you can enjoy our multitude of events, attractions and historical landmarks, not to mention our warm hospitality."

Anyone planning a visit to Charlottesville should visit the official destination website www.visitcharlottesville.org.
