UVa Men and Women's Lacrosse Teams Need Wins

Posted: Updated:

Both the UVa men and women's lacrosse teams need to win games to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.   The Cavalier men have a record of 5-6.  The Wahoo women are 7-7.  Both teams need to finish at least .500 to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

The Virginia men have lost five straight games for the first time since the 1960's.   The Cavaliers play at Duke Friday.   The 'Hoos have lost 12 of the last 13 games to Duke.

Coach Dom Starsia says, "The players, you watch the film and you watch the performance of the team they all feel like we're close, at the same time that's not going to get it done on Saturday and its not going to get us to where we want to be so we have to close out some of these late games here and try to make a run at this thing."

UVa sophomore midfielder Ryan Tucker says, "Putting in some much effort in practice and keep playing, this week is going to be our big week coming up, we had a great practice yesterday, I'm sure we're going to have a great practice today and hopefully it'll translate this Friday."

The UVa women's lacrosse team plays host to John Hopkins on Thursday night.

Cavalier sophomore midfielder Courtney Swan says, " We can be great. We've been challenged every game this season. We have probably one of the hardest schedules so its just really mentally tough. We need to put it all together and take all these losses and put it towards making a really good post season run"

UVa coach Julie Myers says, "we're right on the verge of playing really really well. Its a couple of inches here and there that will make a big difference with opportunities. And then some of those goals. All over the field I think we just need to make little adjustments - nothing major. Certainly we need to stop making some of these mistakes at critical times. We need a couple of clutch plays at both ends of the field so we can end up winning one of these games."
